Mizah Nedir?

Mizah, güldürmeyi ve eğlendirmeyi hedefleyen bir anlatım biçimidir. Bir karikatürde mizah; beklenmedik bir durumu, beden dilini ya da sözcük oyununu aracılığıyla gülümseme ya da kahkaha uyandırır. Güldürmenin ötesinde derin bir eleştiri taşımak zorunda değildir.

Hiciv Nedir?

Hiciv ise mizahı bir amaç için kullanır: Eleştirmek, tarifletmek ve değiştirmeye zorlamak. Siyasi iktidarı, kurumları, toplumsal adaletsizliği hedef alır. Bir hiciv karikatürü sizi güldürebilir; ama aynı zamanda rahatsız eder, düşündürür ve sorgulatır.

Two of the first words that come to mind when caricature is mentioned are satire and humor. But these two concepts do not mean the same thing. Understanding the difference between them is the first step to reaching the depth of caricature art.

What Is Humor?

Humor is a form of expression that aims to amuse and entertain. In a caricature, humor evokes a smile or laughter through an unexpected situation, body language, or wordplay. It does not have to carry deep criticism beyond making people laugh.

What Is Satire?

Satire, meanwhile, uses humor for a purpose: to criticize, to expose, and to force change. It targets political power, institutions, and social injustice. A satirical caricature may make you laugh; but at the same time it disturbs, makes you think, and causes you to question.

Both Together in Caricature
